Pre-Othello Assignment

" A person's love can be gained through material wealth." : Personally, I disagree with this statement since people should be able to find the one who is  spiritually and mentally compatible with them, without looking at what's around them. However, people are always judging others and making decisions about what they judge. This can cause people to make decisions to meet someone in the belief that they will be given back a material in return, and satisfying that person. And in the long run of things, the other person who meets with the wealthy may learn to truly love the person. So universally, love can be created through wealth, by bringing people together.

1) Venice: Venice is located in Italy, and during the 16th century, the city was in a state of decline. The economy was experiencing a crisis due to traders moving to America, and merchants dependent on Venice found new trade routes. This caused political power to fall, but the arts became a focus in the city, and this soon brings up many talents within the city while it recovers from its economic crisis.

2) Cyprus: Is an island located in the Mediterranean Sea, south of Turkey. During the 16th century, Cyprus was very important because it was the home to the Ottoman Empire after it was invaded. The Ottoman Empire gained more power during this time when it enlisted people in economic crisis, and this later helped the economy of many countries recover.

3) Moors: The Moors are Muslims from North Africa(specifically Algeria), who were forced to move into Europe during the 16th Century because of they did not own any land after a military loss, and had to live in Europe to survive.

4)Turks: In general, foreigners were looked at negatively and alienated because of skin color and religious beliefs. Non-Christians and Turks were treated very cruelly because of religion, which forced them to hide their religion, or convert.

5) Epilepsy: It causes seizures that range from lost of alertness, violent shaking, or staring spells. During the Renaissance, epilepsy was thought of as a sign of great intelligence and prophetic powers coming to a person, or a disease that can only be cured by touching holy relics. Now, people think of it as a disorder that causes seizures in certain individuals.
